Understanding the size regulations in the United States before purchasing will make the purchasing process smoother, especially for online shopping, and can avoid the trouble of exchanges and returns due to size issues.

The size of shoes is usually determined by the length of the foot, and the international standard size is the number of millimeters of the foot length. The sizes of different regions are usually determined by different conversion formulas.

A. Foot size measurement method

Knowing your foot size accurately is an important step before buying shoes. Foot size data generally includes foot length and foot width.

Since the foot is a three-dimensional irregular shape, it is impossible to directly measure the exact length and width with a ruler, so other tools are needed for accurate measurement. As shown in the following figure:

Foot length

Stand naturally with both feet on a piece of white paper, place the pen perpendicular to the ground, close to the tip of the thumb and the most prominent part of the heel to make marks. For some buyers whose second toe is longer than the thumb, you can locate the tip of the second toe.

Draw two parallel lines from the two marked points, which should be perpendicular to the direction in which your feet are placed.

The distance between the two parallel lines is the length of the foot.

Foot width

The initial preparation is the same as measuring the foot length. The marking points are the most outward protrusion of the ball of the big toe and the most outward protrusion of the heel of the little toe. Draw two parallel lines based on the marking points, and the parallel lines are parallel to the direction of foot placement.

The distance between the parallel lines is the width of the foot.
